FIRST MONTHS IN CANADA
After living in Canada for few months and having dealt with all main issues regarding documents, the immigrant has to plan his/her next months of stay in the country. First of all, he/she will have to find a permanent place to live. It is easy to do – just buy a fresh newspaper and check the column with the ads, which usually contains lots of relevant proposals. Do not put off children’s registration at school. Contact the local education service that will assign an examination date for your child and issue a letter of referral to a school. Opening a bank account is another important thing to do. In order to open a bank account you will have to present to the bank the Confirmation of Permanent Residence form, your passport and the Social Insurance Number card.
You may register in one of the organizations for immigrants’ assistance, in your city of residence. Members of the organization will advise you on any matter, at any time (phone numbers may be found in the phone book.
It is worth taking individual English or French language program, especially designed for immigrants and financed by the government of Canada.
